Hi!
It's Jason & Mike from Metro Defense Training.
I know it's been awhile since you've heard from us. For some of you, this is the first time. For others, it's been several months. If you've been too busy to take your carry permit class, I've got some exciting news below.
It's shaping up to be an important year for gun rights in Minnesota. I wish I meant that in a positive way. I've spent several days down at the Capitol already this year, along with a thousand other gun rights advocates. I know some of you were there, too. I'd love to hear your stories. If you're interested in protecting your rights, now would be a great time to sign up for the GOCRA mailing list at http://www.gocra.org.
"Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the act of depriving a whole nation of arms, as the blackest." - Mahatma Gandhi
Now, I'd like to take a moment to talk about a non-political issue that came up in class last week.
Trigger control.
We had a number of inexperienced shooters come through. That's fine, because I love teaching new shooters. The part that stands out with this group was the trigger control.
If accuracy is a problem for you, the single most important thing you can do is work on how you handle your trigger. The trick is to gently squeeze it back, as softly as you can. In the beginning, you should be a bit surprised when the gun goes off. Doing this will eliminate any flinch or inconsistency from jerking the trigger.
Once you have that down, you can pay attention to your accuracy. If you are consistently hitting the target in about the same place, it's relatively easy to make that place the center of the t arget. Again, it comes down to managing your trigger.
If you are consistently shooting to the left, you need to use a bit more of your finger to pull the trigger. You don't have enough leverage, so you're pushing the gun as you pull the trigger.
If you are consistently shooting to the right, you are using too much finger and are pulling the gun.
If you're left-handed, reverse what I just said.
That's it. Pulling the trigger correctly and consistently is the top secret to accuracy.
