Welcome to the inaugural edition of Metro Defense Training's newsletter, my name is Jason Walberg - Chief Instructor. Michael (co-owner) and I meant to start the newsletter several months ago, but, as you already know, life sometimes makes other plans. Thank you for your patience.
Although we aren't lawyers, with this newsletter we intend to keep you up to date on all legal issues that may arise relating to your carry permit and other Second Amendment rights. For example Florida recently changed their Permit to Carry renewal time to seven years. If you use our certificate (or any other!) to get a Florida Permit to Carry; you won't have to do that again for seven more years as opposed to five years before June 11th, 2008.
In other news, a permit holder in Rochester, MN used his gun to stop a man from running over children in a city park July 4th, 2008. A licensed MN Permit to Carry citizen was there and he stopped the criminal before he injured or killed innocent children. The criminal is innocent until proven guilty, but the driver was charged, because he was putting those children in danger. The MN Permit to Carry a Pistol saved lives, again! Unfortunately, in the absence of absolute proof of danger to the children, the permit holder has also been charged.
Did you hear about the incident on July 4th, 2008 in Shakopee, MN when an unarmed adult man was "stomped" by eight young men at ValleyFair, for daring to object when one of the men assaulted his 16 year old daughter? We at Metro Defense Training, LLC encourage you to continue to proactively stay vigilant, please protect your loved ones at home and while in your community. We are not willing victims.
On a more pleasant note we have a training class coming August 24, 2008!
On August 24th (this Sunday) we have our next MN Permit to Carry Class. Our Class includes the Florida Certification Certificate, (with the FL Certification you could to carry in approximately 30 states), a copy of the book Everything You Need to Know about (Legally) Carrying a Handgun in Minnesota, and world class training.

On September 13th, Key Cities Conservation Club of Mankato, MN is holding the NRA sponsored shooting clinic, Women on Target. Metro Defense Training volunteers and supports the NRA and Women on Target.
Last year the Women on Target had 35 women participants! This year the program is limited to 50 participants. This is a wonderful opportunity for the ladies to try several guns and get training from wonderful instructors. Lunch and ammunition are included for only $20. If you have taken our class before I want to personally thank you for your business and support of the Minnesota Permit to Carry Law. Your decision to take our class and become an active, licensed permit holder in our community could save your life or someone else's. No matter what your reason to Carry, thank you!
Have you ever heard someone referring to the MN Permit to Carry license as their Permit to Carry and Conceal? If so that is a perfect time to talk with that individual on what the Permit to Carry really is and what it means to Carry in Minnesota.
Minnesota State Law does not differentiate between 'Open' or 'Concealed' Carry of your firearm. For example, have you ever seen an armored truck driver hide their firearm? I doubt it! Their gun is out in the open, on display for everyone to see!
Please, encourage your friends and family to obtain a Minnesota Permit to Carry a Pistol. Not only is it a right but our class is: engaging and challenges you to think in a non-defensive, non-zealous environment that promotes safety, understanding of culture, and diversity of firearm understanding.

Top 10 reason to get your carry permit, and specifically, to do so with Metro Defense Training.
10. We are certified. We have close to a dozen certifications from various organizations, representing almost 100 hour of instructional training that we bring to you, in every class. We are also certified as a certifying organization by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.
9. You spend time in dangerous places. This is a lousy reason to carry. If you are going someplace that you know is dangerous, go somewhere else!
8. We believe in ongoing education. Every year, we seek out more training and more education, in order to offer more value to you, our students.
7. Occupational circumstances. Some jobs are more dangerous than others. Security guards and pizza delivery folks routinely have a need for self defense.
6. Our class is evolving. As time goes on, legal situations and interpretations develop, which cause us to update our training. These updates are reflected in our classroom presentation and range exercises. At Metro Defense, any of our students can retake our class at any time, for free. This won't, of course, include the certificate necessary for renewal, but it will allow you to take a "refresher" as often as you'd like.
5. A specific threat. Nobody likes a stalker. If an ex-husband or crazy boyfriend is making threats, take care of yourself, first.
4. You'll receive a $20 referral for everybody you send to our class, if you have taken it, first. If you take our class, and refer someone to our class, and they take our class, we will send you $20. Some restrictions may apply.
3. Exercise your civil rights. After the recent Heller Supreme Court case, the Second Amendment and the Right to Bear Arms has been unarguably recognized as an individual right, completely separate from militia duty. This is your right, don't let it go to waste.
2. We care. At Metro Defense, we don't throw you to the wolves after our class is complete. If you have questions, give us a call. If you need help with your application, give us a call. If your application is denied and you need a referral for an attorney to appeal, give us a call.
1. Self defense is a human right. The right to defend yourself from harm has existed since the dawn of man. It transcends mere civil rights. It is not dependent of a piece of paper in our nation's capital. It exists because we exist. Nothing short of voluntary surrender can make that right go away.
